DOWNLORD Trapped In 'Scandinavian Black Metal Arctic Hell'
January 31, 2006DOWNLORD, the Danish death metal band featuring former members of BOLT THROWER/BENEDICTION, INIQUITY, and SACRIFICIAL, hit a major snag during their initial attempt at travelling to Reno Kiilerich's (ex-DIMMU BORGIR, OLD MAN'S CHILD) studio to record drum tracks for their next demo project
Commented vocalist Dave Ingram: "We set off towards Skjern (western Denmark) where Reno currently lives on January 20. We only travelled 112 kilometres out of 350 when we got to the great bridge 'Storbæltsbroen' and were told it was closed due to the adverse weather conditions. What they simply meant was: it was snowing.
"Since we were surrounded by traffic, and unable to move or return to Copenhagen, we just had to wait it out. There were cops everywhere, all stumbling around like headless corpses, not able to string a sentence together or willing to tell us anything. Before long, we dubbed the situation a Scandinavian Black Metal Arctic Hell. After 18 hours of the cops bullshit, and news updates on the radio that the bridge would be 'open again soon' every few hours, we decided to postpone the recording session and get a new launch-window in two weeks time, rather than struggle on and rush through it.
"Anyone would've thought that it had never f*cking snowed here before!"
The band have scheduled (weather permitting!) the next session to start on February 17. Visit www.downlord.dk for more details, and for a visual Quicktime movie of the first attempted trip, with more updates to follow.
